Minuwangoda President's College (formerly known as Japalawaththa Central College) was founded in 26th February 1979 in Minuwangoda. It is considered to be the leading public school in Sri Lanka.

Lanka. The college was founded in 1979 by Late Hon Bennet Gunasekara,
member of parliament for Minuwangoda.
The founder Principal was Mr.
R.L.P.P. Rajapakse who led the school to be one of the most reputed
government schools in the Island.
The first batch of students were admitted to the school in 1979. There were 225 students (115 students from Minuwangoda Nalanda Boys' Central College and 110 students selected from an entrance exam). Including the Principal, there 6 teachers at the time the college started.
The college was upgraded as 1A mix school on the 1st Sep 1979. The first batch of students sat for G.C.E Ordinary Level Exam in 1983.
